🧠 What Are Tooltips in Power BI?

By default, a tooltip appears when you hover over a data point. But with custom tooltips, you can design entire pages that appear on hover, showing charts, metrics, or even text details.

🔧 Example Use:

Hovering over a sales bar shows a custom tooltip with:

• Product breakdown
• Regional performance
• Year-over-year growth

🎨 How to Create a Custom Tooltip in Power BI

Step 1: Create a Tooltip Page

• Go to New Page
• In Visualizations pane → Page Information → Enable Tooltip

Step 2: Set Page Size

• Format pane → Page size → Tooltip

Step 3: Add Visuals to Tooltip Page

• Use cards, bar charts, KPIs, etc.
• Keep it minimal, clear, and focused

Step 4: Link Tooltip to Main Report

• Select the visual you want a tooltip for
• Go to Format > Tooltip → Set type as Report Page → Select your custom tooltip page

💡 Tips for Great Custom Tooltips

• Use dynamic content: Include DAX measures like SELECTEDVALUE() or HASONEVALUE().
• Keep it clean: Use one or two visuals max.
• Match color schemes and fonts with the main report.
• Use it for drill-in-place insights without full drill-through navigation.
